Some people........

Just never check their computer. One of my workmates brought his laptop to me today as it wasn't booting properly and when it did boot ran slow etc. I just ran my 1st check on it, Malwarebytes anti malware and it found 932 infected files. I'm now running AVG which will be followed by Avast and maybe Adaware.

Beats me why the seriously broken binary globs that Micro$not deliver are so popular when it takes about 2 hour to install kubuntu 9.10 & extras (grafix package etc.) & update everything with (an alleged) 4MB connection. Only one reboot required too.

Further to that last, I have flirted with Linux for three times, when windows wouldn`t open (or close). Each time (Linspire, Red Hat and now the all conquering Ubuntu 10/04) the programme has been found wanting, mostly from lack of drivers. It does not do to claim that the drivers are the responsibility of the hardware maker. That`s the cheap argument. My latest foray meant that the wireless printer came on line, updates came thick and fast, but neither Firefox or Evolution were the slightest bit interested in my broadband, either wifi or ether. Trying Linux forums was a nono, and I found a three week old cry of pain from a user with exactly my problem, but no answer from the nerdroom. Until this sort of thing is eradicated and any problem solving explained in `nonenerd talk` (and by that I mean that I gave up MOSDOS since windows 3.--- and Terminal just does not ring my bell) then linux will not catch on with the general public, who just want the easy way.

Depends how determined one is to avoid external interference and consumer lock-in, to have free speech rather than free beer..

Stolen email addy

Someone is using my email address to send spam to lots of people and even some of my contacts. I keep getting emails from the postmaster saying that they have failed to be delivered, but some get through, Phil got one. Can anyone help on this one, as I would love to be able to trace who is doing it and have it stopped.

Cheers
Derrick

I use the following anti-virus software collection on my PCs (home and all in my office):
1. "ZoneAlarm Extreme Security" V. 9.3.014.000 (anti-virus, firewall and anti-spiware engine, anti-spam, on-line browser security(very useful!)). All in one pack.
More info: www.zonealarm.com
2. "Spy-the-spy" (small but very powerful Monitor Windows folders for Spyware).
More info: www.mediachance.com

This and only for NO VIRUS in all my PCs and NO Broken Systems at all through the last 3-4 years.

p.s. IMHO. Zone Alarm is the best choice in front of AVAST, NOD32, Kaspersky Lab, etc. etc.
